Happy World Jump Day, fam!

World Jump Day is celebrated on July 20 every year. The concept was promoted by German artist, Torsten Lauschmann, and the first World Jump Day was slotted for July 20, 2006.

The occasion is an artistic celebration to raise awareness about the harmful effects of global warming. It was a satirical proposal to reduce global warming by changing the Earth's orbit through the simultaneous jumping of 600 M people from the Western Hemisphere.

Saving the world or not, here are 5 good and healthy reasons to start jumping today:

[1] Strengthens the heart and improves the lungs

Jumping continuously for an extended length of time pumps up more blood and oxygen that get your muscles working. This results in increased heart rate and respiratory rate to accommodate the increased demand.

Over time, the activity enables you to exercise for longer periods of time by extending your lung capacity and strengthening your heart.

[2] Builds stronger bones

Jumping rope is a high-impact activity that strengthens bones by putting them under good stress.

The body responds to the brief stress on bones brought on by ground reaction forces during a jump by making the bones stronger and denser.

In fact, 22-week research including Olympic swimmers found that full-body vibration plus 20 minutes of jump rope exercise twice per week significantly increased the bone mineral density of the lumbar spine and femoral neck (a portion of the thigh bone).

[3] Firms and tones your muscles

The act of jumping rope relies on your lower body muscles (calves, thighs, and buttocks), upper body (shoulders and biceps), and abdominal muscles.

The activity helps improve muscle strength and endurance, which allows you to exercise for an extended period.

[4] Coordination and balance

Jumping rope involves the coordination of your arms, legs, and torso while also keeping a constant rhythm. It's also a practice of proper balance to maintain your center of gravity and allows your feet to push off of the ground in a repeated fashion.

[5] It brings joy!

Exercise might be overwhelming for some. However, jumping is such a simple yet fun activity that can instantly give you a good dose of endorphins like other cardio-exercises do.

Also, you’re actually more likely to be consistent in your fitness routine when you’re in the fun zone.

You can also jumpstart your journey to health and fitness with the right health plan.
